What is a Virtual Private Server (VPS)?
A Virtual Private Server (VPS) very simply is a service that enables a trader to
have his or her trading platform hosted remotely. This connection avoids down time
that can be caused by dropped Internet connections and power outages.
In these days of lightning fast order execution, down time of even seconds can cost
the trader real money. As a result, a VPS has become a necessary tool for the trader’s
trading arsenal. With most VPS’s, the connection is made through a Windows “Remote
Desktop Connection”. The user is given an IP address by the provider, along with
a password. Once the information is entered, the user is now logged on to the remote
server. The user then sees a familiar desktop and can use Meta Trader 4 (MT4) trading
platforms identical to those installed on their own computer’s hard drive. Even
if the user powers down his or her computer, the trading platforms will remain open.
